Thomas just finished competing in the jr M13-14 National Championship road race on his Darnell Custom Carbon road bike! The bike and Thomas performed extremely well and took 42nd out of around 88 of the best racers the country has to offer! A big thanks to James Darnell, John Maher and Team Portsmouth for the outstanding support and encouragement that brought Thomas into A position of an elite racer! We wouldn't be here at nationals without you guys! Time trial tomorrow, Thomas' specialty so expecting even bigger things tomorrow!

Thomas' Darnell custom will be raced with a few modifications on May 7th at the Wintergreen ascent..The Virginia State Championship Hill Climb! Thomas is looking to perform well at Wintergreen this year with the Darnell custom. The bike has been modified by installing a Shimano SLX subcompact crank. The front chainrings will now be a 36-22 instead of the standard 52-39.

The top speed has been reduced to about 20mph. However, the average speed of the riders that finish the race (not all do) is about 7mph. The current setup will cruise nicely at about 4 miles an hour with a high cadence if necessary. This combined with an excellent fit and the lightweight frame and fork will provide an excellent opportunity to win the Gold for Team Portsmouth.
